SI Appendix Template

Standard modular SI clause and Appendix Foxtrot modifying RRS 60.1 & 62.1 for smartphone and hardware tracking.

How to Use This Template

This template follows World Sailing Appendix S (Standard Sailing Instructions) and international major regatta standards. Race committees should copy the main body clause into their Sailing Instructions and attach Appendix Foxtrot, replacing bracketed parameters [[ ... ]]:

1. SI Main Body Clause (Modifies RRS 60.1 & 62.1)

【Rule Text】: All boats shall carry and operate an active electronic tracking system as specified in Appendix F (Tracking Instructions). Telemetry data, live broadcast charts, and track-derived crossing estimates are provided exclusively for regatta safety, race management, and public media broadcasting. They shall NOT be used as evidence for a protest by a boat or a request for redress (this modifies RRS 60.1 and 62.1). Failure to comply with tracking instructions may result in a discretionary penalty (DP) by the International Jury.

2. Appendix: Smartphone Tracking via SurgeTrac

  1. 01
App installation: install SurgeTrac from the Apple App Store or surgesails.com APK before the technical skipper briefing.
  2. 02
Pairing: enter your boat's 6-digit Entry Code or scan the boat QR code at least 60 minutes before the warning signal.
  3. 03
Permissions: set Location to "Always Allow" with Precise Location, turn OFF battery saver/low power mode, and allow Background App Refresh.
  4. 04
Dual-phone failover: a second crew member may pair as Backup; if Primary phone disconnects for >15s, server fails over automatically.
  5. 05
Cockpit mounting: mount the phone in a transparent waterproof pouch in the open cockpit with an unobstructed sky view. Never place inside the cabin.

3. Optional Module: Dedicated GNSS Hardware

If the organizing authority issues dedicated hardware trackers, boats receive them pre-activated with the boat's sail number displayed on the e-paper screen. Mount the device tightly with zip-ties to the stern pushpit. Return to the Race Office within 60 minutes after the day's racing.
