Coaching Debrief
Move from objective telemetry evidence to one to three specific, actionable training goals.
1. Start with a Specific Question
Avoid aimlessly scrubbing through hours of playback. Choose one specific session and a concrete question: Why did we fall behind off the start line? Why did we lose distance on the second downwind leg? What caused the expensive tack near mark 1? Record the crew's subjective recollections before opening the telemetry numbers.
2. Follow a Consistent Five-Step Reading Order
- 01Step 1 (Overview): inspect the full-race leaderboard to pinpoint the exact leg or mark rounding where the gap changed.
- 02Step 2 (Start): review line bias, position at the gun, time to line (TTL), and early progress (DMG30).
- 03Step 3 (Legs): compare sailed distance, extra distance %, and course-side Left/Middle/Right choices.
- 04Step 4 (Actions): inspect entry speed, minimum apex speed, recovery time, and signed Loss for key tacks/gybes.
- 05Step 5 (Replay): return to the exact moment in the 2D chart to observe fleet traffic and wave chop context.

3. Turn Observations into 1–3 Actionable Training Goals
Conclude every debrief with one to three testable action items assigned to specific crew members. For example: "Trimmer to focus on holding jib back for 0.5s longer during tacks in >12 kts wind to improve speed recovery time by 2 seconds." Keep uncertainty visible: a favored side in one race does not guarantee a universal tactical rule.
