Race Analysis

Maneuvers & Roundings

Inspect entry speed, apex minimum, recovery time, and signed Loss along the turn bisector axis.

1. Select a Usable Maneuver

Locate the maneuver on the full-track map, then open its wind-up detail map and SOG curve. Verify that the window duration is complete (~60s). If the window was clipped (<60s) by adjacent tacks, Loss will show as a dash ("-").

2. Dissect Entry, Apex and Exit Recovery

  1. 01
    1. Entry Phase: check speed and course stability before the helm is put over.
  2. 02
    2. Turn Apex: check minimum apex speed and smoothness of the track curve. Over-steering produces steep speed drops.
  3. 03
    3. Exit & Recovery: inspect time to recover to 85% of entry speed. Quick jib trim and crew flattening power early recovery.

3. Understanding the Signed Loss Ruler

Loss measures expected straight-sailing progress minus actual net progress along the turn bisector axis. Negative Loss represents a gain against that baseline (superb roll-tack roll-pumping); positive Loss represents lost distance in metres. Treat mark roundings separately from open-water tacks, as mark roundings naturally involve fleet constraints.
