MarkSet Assistant
Coordinate the PRO, signal boat and mark boats in a shared live room to design courses, navigate to target marks and sync nautical coordinates.
Before you start: Roles & permissions
MarkSet connects the Principal Race Officer (PRO) on the signal boat with mark-laying boats on the water. Before leaving the dock, confirm that every participating phone or tablet has browser GPS location permission enabled and a working cellular connection.
- 01【Signal Boat / PRO Workstation】①Create or open the shared room and distribute the room code or QR code;②Use the anchored signal boat position as reference, then set True Wind Direction (TWD), leg distances and start-line length;③Publish target marks to the room and monitor mark-boat positions and placement confirmations.
- 02【Mark Boat Crew】①Scan the room QR code shared by the PRO to join directly without admin login;②Select the assigned target mark (e.g. Mark 1, Mark 1a, or Gate 4p/4s);③Steer by the live distance and bearing readout, then tap placement confirmation once the buoy is anchored.
1. Create and join a shared room
Open the MarkSet lobby (/markset) to launch a new PRO workstation room or enter an existing room code. Recent rooms are saved locally for quick reconnection throughout the race day.
- 01【Create & Share (PRO)】Inside the room, tap the room-code badge in the top bar to display the QR code and copyable link for mark boats to scan at the dock.
- 02【Scan to Join (Mark Boats)】Mark boats scan the QR code with their phone camera to enter the shared room immediately. The top bar indicates live connection status.

2. Configure wind, reference boat and publish course
Once the signal boat is anchored on station, the PRO opens Course Settings to generate the target course geometry from measured wind:
- 01【Step 1: Lock Reference Position】Confirm the signal boat GPS fix is stable and anchored to serve as the course origin.
- 02【Step 2: Enter Wind & Leg Parameters】①Course Type:Select Windward/Leeward (W/L), Triangle, or Offset-mark layout;②True Wind Direction (TWD):Enter measured wind direction (0°–360°);③Distances & Start Line:Set windward leg length (nm or m), gate width, and start-line length.
- 03【Step 3: Save & Publish】Saving broadcasts updated target coordinates to every connected mark boat in real time. Confirm receipt over VHF.

3. Mark-boat navigation and placement confirmation
After receiving the published targets, each mark boat taps its assigned mark (e.g. M1 Windward or Pin) to enter high-contrast on-water navigation mode:
- 01【Live Distance & Bearing】Large readouts display straight-line distance and magnetic/true bearing from your boat to the selected target mark.
- 02【Placement Confirmation】Once the buoy is anchored, tap Confirm Placement to report the actual GPS coordinates back to the PRO.

4. Inspect DDM coordinates and C-flag course changes
Open Coordinate Details to view all planned and placed marks in standard nautical Degree-Decimal-Minutes (DDM, e.g. 24°57.925'N) with one-click copy for race committee logs.

5. Sync with official Event course
MarkSet is an independent field-coordination tool and does not overwrite your official Event workspace automatically. Once marks are anchored and verified, copy the confirmed coordinates or link buoy trackers in the Event Course Designer (/docs/marks) before relying on live laylines or post-race analysis.
