Race Scoring

Review finishing records, import candidate bow-crossing times, apply IRC handicaps and series discards, and export signed official bulletins.

1. Results Workspace Structure

Organizers open Results from the event workspace. The scoring module is divided into three functional areas:

  1. 01
Race results (Single Race): manages finishing times, penalty codes and elapsed times for each individual session (R1, R2, etc.).
  2. 02
Series sheets (Series Scoring): aggregates selected sessions and fleet groups to calculate overall series standings with discards.
  3. 03
Presentation settings: configure regatta bulletin headers, club logos, Chief Judge signatures, and official race committee stamps.

2. Track Candidate Import & Finish Review

When replay analysis is ready, operators can import algorithmic candidate finishing times directly into draft race sheets, saving tedious manual typing while keeping full human oversight:

  1. 01
Bow-crossing detection: the engine calculates the exact millisecond each boat's bow intersects the finish line vector.
  2. 02
Import preview & verification: click "Import Candidate Finishes". Compare the candidate times against the paper record kept by the race committee on the finish boat. Check only the candidates you agree with.
  3. 03
Penalty codes & exceptions: enter penalty codes (OCS, DNS, DNF, DSQ, RET, DPI) directly for boats that infringed rules or retired.
  4. 04
Confirm race results: review final elapsed times, save draft and click "Confirm Results" to freeze the single race record.

3. Handicap Scoring & Series Discards

SurgeRace supports both One-Design scratch racing (NONE) and IRC handicap rating formulas:

  1. 01
IRC Corrected Time: corrected time = elapsed time × TCC. Verify each boat's official valid TCC certificate coefficient in the fleet settings before scoring.
  2. 02
Series discards (Discards): configure low-point scoring rules (RRS Appendix A). For example, "1 discard after 4 races completed" automatically strikes out each competitor's worst score.
  3. 03
Tie-breaking: tied scores are broken strictly in accordance with RRS A8 (most firsts/seconds, or latest race score).

4. Export & Official Bulletins

Generate publication-ready bulletins matching the layout required by national sailing associations and World Sailing events:

  1. 01
Preview bulletins: preview single-race bulletins or series ranking sheets with total points, net points and discard strikes.
  2. 02
Signatures and stamps: add the Principal Race Officer (PRO) signature PNG and Race Committee red official stamp image in presentation settings.
  3. 03
Export formats: download as CSV spreadsheet for regional ranking archives, PNG images for mobile group chats, or Print/PDF for on-water noticeboard pinning.
