Getting Started

Platform Overview

Benchmarking TracTrac standards: built around dual-tracking (e-paper hardware & mobile app), 60 FPS live vector charts, race replay and debriefing, supported by a field utility toolbox.

1. Product Positioning & Core Values

Benchmarking international top-tier regatta standards like TracTrac, SurgeRace is a new-generation digital cloud platform engineered for sailing event operations, high-frequency live tracking, and tactical debriefing. The platform delivers three core values:

  1. 01
60 FPS Live Vector Chart & Telemetry Replay: fluid multi-boat track rendering on vector charts, real-time leaderboards, mark rounding sequence, and instant timeline playback — zero-install, no-login browser access for spectators and coaches.
  2. 02
Minimalist Sailor Experience & Mobile Broadcasting: crew scan a 6-letter event code or QR code to join in one second, with background keep-alive, dual-phone hot standby, and offline buffering for seamless telemetry.
  3. 03
Closed-Loop Regatta Operations & Tactical Debriefing: fleet & round scheduling, mark layout, course design, and one-click entry to post-race replay and granular tactical analysis (TTL, DMG30, VMG, maneuver speed loss).

2. Dual-Tracking System: Hardware vs Mobile App

SurgeRace features a mature dual-tracking architecture. Organizers can flexibly configure dedicated e-paper hardware trackers for high-profile championships, or leverage crew smartphones via SurgeTrac for budget-conscious club racing, with full hybrid fleet support in the same event:

  1. 01
Dedicated E-Paper Hardware Tracker (Championships & Pro Fleets): e-paper screen boldly displays boat/sail numbers for zero-confusion dockside handovers; IP67 waterproof build resists salt spray and wave impacts; ultra-long multi-day battery life with persistent screen display; hardware SOS distress button.
  2. 02
SurgeTrac Mobile App (Club Races & Low-Cost Fleet Tracking): zero hardware capex required; sailors use personal iOS or Android devices; instant pairing via 6-digit Entry Code or QR code; dual-phone hot-standby failover (15s automatic takeover); offline SQLite persistence buffers points during cellular dead zones.

Dual-Tracking Architecture: GPS Trackers vs Mobile App

Choose based on event scale, or mix both (e.g. hardware trackers on buoys & key boats, mobile app for club fleets).

GPS Hardware Trackers
Championship / Boats & Buoys
  • ✓Boats & Buoys:Tracks racing boats, committee vessels and drifting course buoys live
  • ✓Screen ID:Built-in screen shows sail number, battery & GPS lock; zero-error handout
  • ✓Zero Touch:Turnkey operation, IP67 waterproof, multi-day battery, zero crew distraction
  • ✓Offline Buffer:Onboard flash buffers 1Hz points in dead zones and uploads on return
SurgeTrac Mobile App
Club Races / Low Cost
  • ✓Zero Capex:No hardware rental or purchase; sailors use their own phones
  • ✓Instant Pair:Scan 6-digit Entry Code or QR code to bind immediately
  • ✓Dual Hot-Standby:Two phones per boat; 15-second automatic failover
  • ✓Offline Buffer:Stores points locally in cellular dead zones; auto-uploads on return

3. Optional Field Utility Toolbox

In addition to core tracking and replay, SurgeRace provides standalone field tools for race committees, mark-layers, and scoring officers. They can be used independently without complex event setup:

  1. 01
Regatta Checklist (/prep): generates equipment packing lists for working boats before race day based on boat classes, mark layouts, and race options. Exportable directly to Excel without creating an event.

  1. 01
MarkSet Assistant (/markset): helps mark boats calculate target buoy coordinates and distances relative to the wind. Mark layers join the same room via room code or QR code to view live coordinates, distance, and bearing.

Starting Timer (/timer): input the warning signal time to verify the 5-4-1-0 RRS 26 sequence at a glance. The device clock remains visible while scrolling, with built-in finish window and protest time limit calculations.

Race Scoring (Results): records finishing orders and penalty codes (OCS, DSQ, RET) based on event entry lists, automatically calculating Scratch and IRC handicap points and compiling series standings.

Device Status Check (/check): enter hardware short code or entry code dockside to verify boat sail number binding, battery level, and latest uplink telemetry timestamp before going offshore.

4. Choose Your Starting Point by Role

SurgeRace organizes digital regatta operations around clear participant roles. Choose your role to jump straight into action:

  1. 01
Organizers & Club Directors: create the Event workspace, import fleets, schedule sessions, configure courses, and publish public spectator links.
  2. 02
Skippers & Crew: choose dedicated e-paper hardware trackers for zero-confusion dockside handovers, or install SurgeTrac on mobile for instant scan-and-sail tracking.
  3. 03
Spectators & Coaches: open shared links on mobile or big-screen browsers to watch live 60 FPS vector charts with real-time leaderboards and replay moments.
  4. 04
Race Officers & Field Teams (PRO / Mark Layer): use MarkSet, Starting Timer, and Regatta Prep in the auxiliary toolbox for field mark-laying, signal timing, and gear packing.

5. Core Controlled Vocabulary

  1. 01
Event (赛事): the overall regatta container (e.g. "2026 Greater Bay Area Regatta") containing all assets and rounds.
  2. 02
Session (场次/轮次): a single race round inside an Event (e.g. Race 1, Race 2) with its own start gun time, course, and results.
  3. 03
Competitor (参赛船只) & Entry: a competing boat or crew; an Entry binds that competitor to a specific Session with an Entry Code.
  4. 04
Course (航线) & Marks (标点): waypoints and lines defining the sailing order, supporting fixed geographic points and moving buoy trackers.
  5. 05
SurgeRace vs. SurgeTrac: SurgeRace is the web platform (Admin, Viewer, Results, Analysis); SurgeTrac is the lightweight crew mobile tracking client.

6. Three Separate Views of the Same Race

Live, Results and Analysis answer three fundamentally different questions for the same race:

  1. 01
Live & Replay (直播与回放): answers "Where are the boats right now?" Shows smooth real-time interpolated positions and timeline playback.
  2. 02
Results (官方成绩): answers "Who won under the official rules?" Contains finishing times reviewed by officials, penalty points, IRC handicaps and signed bulletins.
  3. 03
Analysis (战术分析): answers "Why did gaps change and how did boats perform?" Explains starts (TTL/DMG30), VMG distributions, leg choices and maneuver Loss from GPS tracks.
